Torch relay held in Albany ahead of Winter World University Games in Lake Placid
Gov. Kathy Hochul attended the Albany torch relay event on Wednesday morning as it heads up to the heart of the Adirondacks.
Members of the Mohawk-Hudson figure skating club even gave a sneak peak at what attendees can expect to see at this year’s games.
“We are one step closer to the realization of a dream of many,” Hochul said. “And that is to welcome athletes from around the world, students who are the best in class. And they’re going to put on performances that are extraordinary.”
More than 1,500 students representing 600 universities will take part in this year’s games. The Rochester Rehabilitation Center was chosen to make the podium medals for the competition.
